Multi Purpose Guest Room
This room quickly became our favorite room in our home. Prior to a multi purpose guest room, this was our home gym. I became pregnant with our son and wanted a space our family of three could lounge and cuddle up on the couch watching movies in, a place where our son could play in and store toys and finally a place our guests could call home when they are in town. We had turned our guest room into our son’s nursery and having a two story house with a newborn, we knew we needed a living space upstairs. We had a small budget for this room, so we wanted to make sure the pieces we got were multi functional.
The first thing we did was paint the walls a gorgeous deep blue. We went through so many paint samples and even painted it twice to get the perfect color. Dunn Edwards Parisian Nights was our choice and we made sure the finish was flat. My handy husband built these oh so ever popular (circa 2016) pipe shelves inspired by our favorite duo Chip and Joanna Gains. They are such a nice fun touch to this room. I love having a statement piece in every room we have.
We purchased this Ikea Console Table and baskets to function for toy storage and guest room necessities. Then we decorated with some of our family treasures and travel keepsakes.
This table was a HomeGoods find. It’s super functional. It can be a coffee table when the room is in lounge mode and an end table when its in guest room mode. I just love it! The wood texture really warms the room.
Finding the perfect sofa bed that was both durable for newborn/toddler messes and comfortable to lounge in for hours in a reasonable budget was tough! We found the perfect solution at IKEA. This sleeper sectional sofa with storage is just what we needed.
This sleeper sofa converts easily into a queen size bed. We store all of the sheets, blankets and pillows in the awesome storage compartment. We also purchased a mattress topper at IKEA and we store it in the guest room closet when we aren’t using it. The mattress topper is surprisingly comfortable!
Making sure guests feel right at home can be done with just a few things:
- WiFi password
- Water bottles
- Humidifier
- Bath towels
- Shower essentials
- Toothpaste/Toothbrush
- Kleenex
- Extra pillows and blankets
- Closet space for their luggage 🙂
When deciding how to decorate this space, I wanted to give it both feminine and masculine touches. I also wanted it to be a space my husband could call a “man cave.” So I incorporated things he loves, like these Formula One Ferrari prints. This space definitely went out of my modern farmhouse comfort zone with the dark colors and textures but in the end its such a calming space. If you are nervous about throwing a dark color on your walls, do it! It’s so nice to cuddle in this space and catch up on our shows or watch a movie.
